Requesting an accommodation

If an accommodation would support your participation in a CSPE course or webinar, please contact us as early as possible.

Advance notice gives us time to understand your needs, discuss available options and prepare reasonable adjustments.

Course materials

CSPE aims to provide learning materials that are:

• Clearly organized
• Written in accessible language
• Readable on common devices
• Available with enough time for meaningful use
• Designed with consistent headings and structure

Accessibility remains an ongoing practice. Feedback about barriers within our materials or learning environment is welcome.

Emotional accessibility

CSPE courses may address grief, caregiving, serious illness, dying, death and bereavement.

Participants choose their level of personal sharing and may step away briefly when needed. Quiet participation, reflection and general questions are welcome.

CSPE encourages participants to honour their capacity and access personal, cultural, spiritual, community or professional support when helpful.

The Centre for Supportive Palliative Education respects and protects the personal information entrusted to us.

This policy explains what personal information CSPE may collect, how it may be used, when it may be shared and the choices available to you.

CSPE handles personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy laws, including Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act where applicable.

• The CSPE online learning platform

• Contact and accessibility requests

This policy does not govern websites or services operated independently by third parties.

Depending upon how you interact with CSPE, we may collect:

CSPE collects the information reasonably needed to provide its educational services, process registrations, communicate with participants and operate its website and learning platform.

3. Payment information

Payments may be processed through third-party payment and course-platform providers.

CSPE may receive information such as:

• Transaction date
• Amount paid
• Payment status
• Limited transaction identifiers

Complete payment-card information is handled by the payment processor according to its own security and privacy practices.

Registered participants may receive communications necessary to deliver an offering, including:

These service communications form part of the registered educational experience.

8. Newsletters and promotional email

CSPE sends newsletters and promotional messages with consent or as otherwise permitted by Canadian law.

You may unsubscribe from promotional email at any time by:

• Using the unsubscribe link in the message
• Updating available communication preferences
• Contacting CSPE directly

Unsubscribing from promotional email will not prevent necessary communications about a course, webinar, payment or service you requested.

9. When information may be shared

CSPE may share limited personal information with service providers that help us operate, including providers of:

• Technical support
• Accounting and professional services

Service providers receive only the information reasonably required to perform their services.

When information is processed in another jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws and lawful access requirements of that jurisdiction.

CSPE selects established service providers and uses reasonable measures appropriate to the nature of the information and service.

11. Privacy in live online learning

CSPE values privacy and respectful participation in its educational spaces.

During live online sessions:

• Your display name may be visible to other participants
• Anything you choose to say may be heard by the learning group
• Personal sharing remains your choice
• Participants are expected to respect the privacy of others
• Screenshots, recordings and distribution of another participant’s personal information require appropriate permission

If CSPE plans to record a session, participants will be informed about the recording and how it will be used.

While CSPE establishes confidentiality expectations, no group learning environment can guarantee the actions of every participant. Please share personal information thoughtfully.

12. Accessibility information

If you request an accommodation, CSPE may collect information needed to understand and respond to the request.

Please provide only the information relevant to the accommodation or access need.

Accessibility information will be used to explore participation options and will be handled with care.

13. Cookies and website information

The CSPE website and its service providers may use cookies or similar technologies to:

• Operate website functions
• Remember user preferences
• Support secure access
• Understand general website activity
• Improve performance and usability
• Support registration and payment processes

Browser settings may allow you to limit or remove cookies. Some website features may depend upon cookies to function properly.

14. Safeguarding personal information

CSPE uses reasonable administrative, technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against:

These measures may include access controls, passwords, secure third-party platforms, limited collection and appropriate record-handling practices.

Every method of electronic storage and communication carries some degree of risk. CSPE reviews its practices and responds to privacy or security concerns as they arise.

15. Retention and disposal

CSPE keeps personal information only as long as reasonably required for:

• The purpose for which it was collected
• Course and administrative operations
• Financial and legal recordkeeping
• Resolving questions or disputes
• Other legitimate organizational requirements

When information is no longer required, CSPE will securely delete, destroy or anonymize it as appropriate.

Different categories of information may have different retention periods.

16. Accessing or correcting your information

You may request access to personal information CSPE holds about you.

You may also ask CSPE to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.

CSPE may need to verify your identity before responding. Access may be limited in circumstances permitted by law, including when disclosure would reveal another person’s personal information.

CSPE will respond within the time required by applicable law or explain any additional steps that are needed.

17. Privacy questions and concerns

You may contact CSPE to:

• Ask about service providers or processing outside Canada

CSPE will review privacy concerns and respond as promptly as reasonably possible.

CSPE may update this Privacy Policy as its services, technology or legal obligations evolve.

The current version will be posted on the CSPE website with its effective date.

Material changes may also be communicated through the website, email or learning platform when appropriate.

Terms and Policies

Effective September 10, 2026

These Terms and Policies apply to fall 2026 courses, webinars and educational offerings provided by the Centre for Supportive Palliative Education.

By completing a paid registration, you confirm that you have reviewed and accepted these terms.

1. Educational scope

CSPE provides education about grief, caregiving, serious illness, dying, death, bereavement, communication and supportive human presence.

CSPE offerings operate within a non-medical scope.

They do not provide:

• Medical assessment, diagnosis or treatment
• Clinical instruction or regulated healthcare training
• Psychotherapy or counselling
• Legal, financial or medical advice
• Professional licensure or regulated credentials

Participants remain responsible for seeking qualified medical, psychological, legal or other professional support appropriate to their circumstances.

2. Fall 2026 offerings

These terms apply to:

• Grief Literacy Training
• Is This Dying?
• When Someone Is Dying and the Relationship Was Complicated
• How Do We Get Along When Someone We Love Is Dying?
• Free Wednesday Webinars
• Any additional CSPE offering that links to these terms

The specific dates, times, tuition and registration deadline for each offering appear on its registration page.

All published times are in Mountain Time.

3. Registration

Registration for a paid offering is confirmed when:

• The registration form has been completed
• These Terms and Policies have been accepted
• Full tuition has been received
• CSPE has issued a registration confirmation

Please review your email address carefully during registration. Course access and administrative information will be sent to the address provided.

If you have not received confirmation, please contact CSPE.

4. Tuition and payment

All fall 2026 tuition is listed in Canadian dollars.

Tuition is paid in full at registration. Any applicable taxes or additional charges will be displayed at checkout.

Payment is processed through the payment provider connected with the CSPE registration platform.

A receipt will be issued following payment.

5. Voluntary refund policy

Refund requests must be submitted to CSPE in writing.

The date CSPE receives the written request determines the applicable refund.

Grief Literacy Training

Course begins October 21, 2026.

• Requests received on or before October 7: 100% tuition refund
• Requests received October 8–18: 50% tuition refund
• Requests received October 19 or later: no voluntary refund

Registration closes October 18.

Is This Dying?

Course begins October 22, 2026.

• Requests received on or before October 13: 100% tuition refund
• Requests received October 14–20: 50% tuition refund
• Requests received October 21 or later: no voluntary refund

Registration closes October 20.

When Someone Is Dying and the Relationship Is Complicated

Course begins November 5, 2026.

• Requests received on or before October 27: 100% tuition refund
• Requests received October 28–November 3: 50% tuition refund
• Requests received November 4 or later: no voluntary refund

Registration closes November 3.

How Can We Get Along When Someone We Love Is Dying?

Course begins November 19, 2026.

• Requests received on or before November 3: 100% tuition refund
• Requests received November 4–10: 50% tuition refund
• Requests received November 11 or later: no voluntary refund

Registration closes November 10.

6. How to request a refund

Send your written request to:

Include:

• Your full name
• The email address used to register
• The name of the offering
• Your request to withdraw

A request is considered received on the date it arrives in the CSPE email account.

Approved refunds will be returned through the original payment method. Financial institutions and payment providers determine when refunded funds appear in the purchaser’s account.

7. Late registration

After the published registration deadline, contact CSPE directly to ask about remaining space.

Late registration:

• Is considered individually
• Depends upon available space and the learning already underway
• Requires immediate payment
• Carries the same no-refund date published for the offering

CSPE may decline late registration when joining after the deadline would affect the participant’s learning or the experience of the group.

8. Attendance, recordings and completion

CSPE’s fall offerings are designed for live online participation. Limited-time recordings provide flexibility and an opportunity for review.

Grief Literacy Training

Session recordings will remain available until December 2, 2026.

Participants may complete the six sessions through live attendance, recording review or a combination of both.

A Certificate of Completion in Grief Literacy will be issued after all six sessions have been completed. Completion must occur by December 2, 2026.

Two-part fall courses

Recordings will remain available for seven days after the second live session:

• Is This Dying?: access closes November 5, 2026
• When Someone Is Dying and the Relationship Was Complicated: access closes November 19, 2026
• How Do We Get Along When Someone We Love Is Dying?: access closes December 3, 2026

Wednesday Webinars

Registered participants will receive replay access for seven days following the live webinar.

Recording privacy and use

CSPE may pause recording during personal discussion or remove personal participant material before posting a replay.

Registration does not guarantee that every discussion, question or participant contribution will appear in the recording.

Recordings and replays are provided solely for registered participants. They may not be downloaded, copied, recorded, distributed, published or shared unless CSPE provides express written permission.

     9. Changes made by CSPE

CSPE may occasionally need to:

• Change a session date or time
• Change the online delivery link or platform
• Substitute an appropriate facilitator
• Reschedule an offering
• Cancel an offering

If CSPE cancels an entire paid offering, registered participants may choose:

• A full tuition refund, or
• A transfer of the amount paid to an available future CSPE offering

If CSPE reschedules an offering and the new schedule prevents a participant from attending, CSPE will provide an appropriate refund or transfer option.

CSPE is responsible for the amount paid directly to CSPE. Participants remain responsible for any personal costs connected with attendance.

10. Online access and technology

Participants are responsible for having:

• A reliable internet connection
• A device capable of joining the online session
• Working audio
• A reasonably private learning space
• Access to the email address used during registration

CSPE will provide the information reasonably required to access the session.

Please contact CSPE promptly if you experience difficulty with a link or course-access instruction.

11. Participation and conduct

CSPE is committed to a respectful learning environment.

Participants agree to:

• Communicate respectfully
• Allow room for different experiences and perspectives
• Protect the privacy of other participants
• Follow facilitator guidance
• Remain within the educational purpose of the offering
• Refrain from discriminatory, threatening, harassing or persistently disruptive behaviour
• Refrain from promoting or selling unrelated services within the learning space

CSPE may address concerns directly, establish participation boundaries or remove a participant whose conduct significantly disrupts or compromises the learning environment.

When practical, CSPE will communicate the concern and provide an opportunity for the participant to respond.

Serious or repeated conduct concerns may result in removal without a voluntary refund.

12. Confidentiality in group learning

Participants may hear personal stories or reflections during live learning.

Participants agree to:

• Keep identifying personal information shared by others private
• Avoid repeating another participant’s story outside the learning group
• Refrain from taking screenshots or making personal recordings
• Obtain appropriate permission before sharing information that could identify another person

Personal sharing is always a choice.

CSPE establishes and reinforces confidentiality expectations. As with any group environment, CSPE cannot guarantee the actions of every participant.

13. Emotional content and personal responsibility

CSPE offerings may include emotionally meaningful material related to grief, illness, caregiving, family relationships, dying and death.

Participants may:

• Choose their level of personal sharing
• Pause or step away when needed
• Participate quietly
• Contact CSPE with an accessibility or participation concern
• Seek personal, cultural, spiritual, community or professional support

Each participant remains responsible for determining whether an offering is appropriate for their current capacity and circumstances.

14. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise identified, CSPE owns or is authorized to use the course materials provided through its offerings.

Materials may include:

• Written resources
• Handouts
• Workbooks
• Teaching frameworks
• Videos
• Audio
• Graphics
• Course descriptions
• Exercises and reflection questions

Registration provides the participant with a limited right to use supplied materials for personal learning.

Materials may not be copied, republished, sold, distributed, uploaded, recorded or taught as CSPE curriculum without written permission.

Participants may apply their learning in their lives and work while respecting CSPE’s original materials and intellectual property.

15. Recording

Participants may not audio-record, video-record, photograph, screen-capture or reproduce a live session without written permission from CSPE and any other individuals whose consent is required.

If CSPE records a session, participants will be informed about:

• What is being recorded
• The purpose of the recording
• Who may access it
• How long access may remain available

16. Privacy

CSPE collects and handles personal information according to its Privacy Policy.

By registering, participants acknowledge that online course delivery may involve third-party platforms used for registration, payment, email and video conferencing.

17. Accessibility

CSPE welcomes requests for reasonable accommodation.

18. Certificates and professional status

A fall 2026 offering provides a certificate or record of completion only when the registration page expressly says so.

Participation in a CSPE course:

• Does not create a professional licence or regulated credential
• Does not guarantee employment or professional recognition
• Does not guarantee approval by an employer, association or continuing-education body
• Does not promise or guarantee credit toward a future CSPE certificate program

Participants are responsible for confirming whether an offering meets the requirements of an employer, insurer, professional association or regulatory body.

19. Results and outcomes

CSPE provides the educational experience described on the offering page.

Individual learning, personal experience and professional application vary according to many factors. Registration does not guarantee a particular personal, professional, emotional or financial outcome.

20. Receipts, reimbursement and tax treatment

CSPE provides a payment receipt.

Participants are responsible for determining whether tuition may qualify for:

• Employer reimbursement
• Professional-development funding
• A business or professional expense
• Any tax-related treatment

Requirements vary by person, profession and organization. Questions about tax treatment should be directed to a qualified tax professional or the Canada Revenue Agency.

21. Statutory consumer rights

These Terms and Policies describe CSPE’s voluntary cancellation and refund practices.

Nothing in these terms limits any cancellation, refund or other consumer right that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.

Where applicable law provides a greater right or remedy, that law will apply.

22. Changes to these terms

The terms accepted at the time of registration will govern that purchase.

CSPE may update these Terms and Policies for future registrations. The current public version will display its effective date.

50% refund: Cancellations received from October 8 through October 18, 2026

Registration closes: October 18, 2026

No voluntary refund: October 19, 2026 onward

Is This Dying?

Full refund: Cancellations received on or before October 13, 2026

50% refund: Cancellations received from October 14 through October 20, 2026

Registration closes: October 20, 2026

No voluntary refund: October 21, 2026 onward

When Someone Is Dying and the Relationship Was Complicated

Full refund: Cancellations received on or before October 27, 2026

50% refund: Cancellations received from October 28 through November 3, 2026

Registration closes: November 3, 2026

No voluntary refund: November 4, 2026 onward

How Do We Get Along When Someone We Love Is Dying?

Full refund: Cancellations received on or before November 3, 2026

50% refund: Cancellations received from November 4 through November 10, 2026

No voluntary refund: November 11, 2026 onward

Refund amounts are calculated according to the tuition paid.

Requests to register after a published deadline may be considered by contacting CSPE directly. When late registration is accepted, immediate payment will be required, and the published no-refund date for that offering will still apply.
