CSPE Wednesday Webinars

Wednesday Webinars are free live online gatherings offered by the Centre for Supportive Palliative Education.

Each gathering begins with a question that often arises during caregiving, serious illness, dying, death or grief. Together, we make room for the complexity of these experiences and develop language for things that can be difficult to understand or discuss.

Webinar:

What If Forgiveness Doesn’t Come Before Goodbye?

When someone is dying, there can be enormous pressure to forgive, reconcile or repair what has remained unresolved.

But forgiveness may not come simply because time is running out. We may not be ready—or willing—to offer it. We may long to receive forgiveness that another person cannot give. Sometimes the conversation we hoped for never happens at all.

What We’ll Explore

Together, we’ll consider:

  • why approaching death can intensify the pressure to forgive
  • the difference between forgiveness, reconciliation and repair
  • what it means when we are not ready—or do not want—to forgive
  • the experience of wanting forgiveness we may never receive
  • how hope for a final conversation can affect the dying process
  • whether peace is possible when something remains unresolved

This gathering does not presume that forgiveness is always possible, necessary or owed. It offers space to consider how people might live with what remains unfinished when goodbye comes before resolution.

Who This Gathering Is For

This webinar may be meaningful for anyone facing an approaching death within a complicated relationship, carrying unresolved hurt or wondering how to accompany someone when forgiveness has not come.

No previous knowledge or professional experience is required.
