Centre for Supportive Palliative Education (CSPE)
CSPE maintains clear progression standards to ensure students are prepared, supported, and aligned with the level of responsibility associated with each pathway.
Our programs are structured, sequential, and competency-based.
GENERAL ADMISSIONS
CSPE programs are open to individuals who:
• Demonstrate emotional steadiness
• Commit to ethical, non-medical scope
• Engage respectfully in relational learning
• Attend live sessions as required
• Uphold confidentiality within cohort spaces
No clinical background is required unless specified.
PALLIATIVE CARE PRACTITIONER PATHWAY
Progression Structure
Tier 1 → Tier 2 → Practicum → Capstone
Progression between stages is structured and intentional.
Tier 1 Admission
Tier 1 is open enrollment.
Participants must:
• Commit to live participation
• Engage in reflective learning
• Practice within non-medical scope
Successful completion of Tier 1 qualifies participants to progress to Tier 2.
Note:
Tier 1 is open enrollment and may be taken as a standalone educational experience.
Many participants complete Tier 1 to deepen their understanding of end-of-life care for personal, family, volunteer, or community contexts without intending to progress into advanced professional roles.
Participants who wish to continue into Tier 2 may do so following successful completion of Tier 1.
Tier 2 Admission
Tier 2 enrollment is available to graduates of Tier 1.
Progression requires:
• Successful completion of Tier 1
• Demonstrated understanding of foundational competencies
• Emotional readiness for advanced relational complexity
Tier 2 enrollment details are shared within the Tier 1 cohort.
Practicum Admission
Progression into practicum requires:
• Successful completion of Tier 2
• Demonstrated integration of supportive-care competencies
• Emotional steadiness appropriate for applied roles
• Commitment to ethical scope and supervision
Practicum placements are coordinated in collaboration with CSPE.
Placement availability may vary by region.
GRIEF INTEGRATION SERIES
Progression Structure
Track 1 → Track 2
Track 1 Admission
Track 1 is open enrollment.
Participants engage in structured grief literacy education.
Track 2 Admission
Track 2 enrollment is available to graduates of Track 1.
Progression requires:
• Successful completion of Track 1
• Demonstrated readiness for facilitation-level learning
Details are shared within the Track 1 cohort.
CROSS-PATHWAY PROGRESSION
Students completing foundational tiers and tracks may explore cross-pathway progression at advanced levels.
Sequencing always applies:
Tier 1 → Tier 2
Track 1 → Track 2
Cross-pathway tuition considerations are outlined within each cohort.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Advancement within CSPE pathways reflects increasing responsibility and relational complexity.
CSPE reserves the right to guide students toward the level most appropriate for their readiness and professional development.
All programs remain educational and non-medical in scope.
Advancement into practicum and professional designation is intended for those pursuing applied supportive-care roles and is not required for personal or foundational learning.
