CSPE Frequently Asked Questions
SECTION 1
Palliative Care Practitioner Pathway
Who is this pathway designed for?
The Palliative Pathway welcomes individuals who feel called to provide compassionate, relational, and supportive presence in end-of-life and serious illness contexts. Participants may include community members, volunteers, caregivers, and those developing a professional supportive-care role.
What type of training is this?
This pathway provides structured education in relational presence, communication, emotional steadiness, boundaries, trauma awareness, and the APFCCM model within supportive palliative care. Clinical tasks, medical procedures, and diagnosis remain within regulated healthcare roles.
Do I need a healthcare background?
Healthcare experience is not required. The program develops competencies specific to non-medical supportive palliative roles.
How does Tier 1 differ from Tier 2?
Tier 1 prepares participants for bedside and family-facing supportive roles within non-medical palliative care contexts.
Tier 1 emphasizes:
β’ steady bedside presence and emotional containment
β’ relational support for individuals and families
β’ foundational advocacy and communication support
β’ understanding ethical boundaries within supportive scope
β’ orienting families to resources and next steps
Tier 2 represents an advanced level of supportive palliative practice and is intended for those moving into senior, integrative roles.
Tier 2 expands into:
β’ navigating complex family systems and group dynamics
β’ applied trauma-aware engagement during high-intensity moments
β’ supporting interdisciplinary communication without directing care
β’ sustained companioning across longer and more complex care arcs
β’ community-based coordination within supportive scope
β’ reflective practice leadership and ethical discernment
Tier sequencing always applies: Tier 1 β Tier 2 β Practicum β Capstone.
Tier 1 focuses on foundational presence, communication, relational ethics, boundaries, and emotional regulation within supportive care settings.
Tier 2 deepens applied companioning skills, including trauma-aware engagement, family systems awareness, existential support, and real-case integration.
What is the progression structure?
Tier sequencing follows a developmental model:
Tier 1 β Tier 2 β Practicum β Capstone
Progression into Tier 2 occurs following successful completion of Tier 1 and demonstrated readiness for advanced relational practice. Details are shared within the Tier 1 cohort.
Do I need to attend live?
Live online participation is central to the relational and experiential nature of this training. Palliative courses offer two weekly time options. Attendance at one fulfills the live requirement.
Why are there two live session options for Tier courses?
Palliative Tier courses offer two weekly live session times to support working professionals, caregivers, and those balancing community responsibilities. Both sessions cover the same material. Participants attend one session per week to fulfill the live requirement.
Because the Palliative Pathway includes practicum preparation and applied professional progression, scheduling flexibility supports accessibility and consistent engagement.
What if I miss a session?
Recordings are available for review and integration. Consistent participation supports eligibility for certificates and progression.
What level of emotional readiness is expected?
Participants benefit from sufficient grounding and emotional regulation to engage in reflective learning and supportive-care content with steadiness.
How does the Practicum work?
The practicum is a six-month, 200-hour supervised applied learning phase. Students companion individuals in approved community settings while integrating APFCCM, reflective practice, and competency-based evaluation. Ongoing mentor oversight supports development and professional growth.
Where can I complete the Practicum?
Practicum placements may include:
β’ hospice volunteer programs
β’ seniorsβ centres
β’ community-based programs
β’ approved organizational partners
Availability varies by region. In areas where formal partnerships are still developing, students may complete practicum hours within approved community settings under CSPE mentor supervision.
Is the Practicum supervised?
Yes. Students meet regularly with their assigned mentor for integration, feedback, and professional development guidance.
What is the Capstone project?
The Capstone demonstrates integrated learning through one of the following:
β’ reflective portfolio
β’ case-based narrative analysis
β’ applied presentation
β’ integrative or creative professional project
What certificates and professional designations will I receive?
Upon completion of Tier 1:
Certificate: Palliative Care Foundations
CSPE Designation: PCLW β Palliative Care Liaison Worker
Upon completion of Tier 2 coursework:
Certificate: Advanced Supportive Palliative Care Practices
Upon successful completion of Tier 2, Practicum, and Capstone:
Certificate: Professional Certificate in Supportive Palliative Care Practice
CSPE Designation: CPCP β Certified Palliative Care Practitioner
CSPE role titles are educational designations reflecting completion of defined supportive palliative care competencies. Regulation and licensure remain under provincial healthcare authorities.
How long does the pathway take?
Approximately nine months:
Tier 1: 6 weeks
Tier 2: 6 weeks
Practicum and Capstone: 6 months
How does payment work?
Six-week programs follow a two-payment structure spaced three weeks apart.
Bundled foundational programs follow a three-payment structure spaced four weeks apart.
What happens if a payment issue arises?
Kajabi reattempts scheduled payments. Continued access depends on maintaining active payment status.
What is the scope of practice after completion?
Graduates operate within relational, supportive, and educational roles in community-based palliative settings.
Do these programs lead to employment?
CSPE provides educational certificates and designations. Employment outcomes depend on regional opportunities, organizational policies, and individual experience.
SECTION 2
Grief Integration Series
Who is this series for?
The Grief Integration Series serves individuals seeking deeper grief literacy for personal growth or for facilitating educational grief spaces within communities.
What is the focus of this series?
This series provides educational training in grief literacy, narrative understanding, trauma-aware communication, cultural humility, and facilitation skills.
Therapeutic and clinical counseling services remain within regulated mental health practice.
How is Track 1 different from Track 2?
Track 1 focuses on personal grief literacy, self-understanding, and foundational knowledge.
Track 2 develops facilitator competencies for guiding grief education within non-clinical settings.
What is the progression structure?
Track sequencing follows:
Track 1 β Track 2
Progression into Track 2 occurs following completion of Track 1 and readiness for facilitator-level learning.
Do I need to attend live?
Grief tracks include one scheduled live session per week. Attendance supports certificate eligibility. Recordings are available for review.
Why is there only one live session per week for Track courses?
The Grief Integration Series runs with one scheduled live session each week to maintain a contained and cohesive learning group. The focus is reflective and educational rather than practicum-based progression, so one live gathering supports continuity and depth of discussion.
Recordings are available for review.
Why is there no practicum following Track 2?
The Grief Integration Series is designed as an educational and facilitation-focused training pathway. Track 2 prepares participants to teach and guide grief education in non-clinical settings.
The Palliative Pathway includes a practicum because it prepares practitioners for applied companioning within community-based care environments. The Grief Integration Series centers on literacy, facilitation, and educational leadership rather than direct supportive-care placement.
What certificates will I receive?
Upon completion of Track 1:
Certificate: Grief Recovery Journey
Upon completion of Track 2:
Certificate: Grief Integration Educator
What skills will I develop in Track 2?
β’ trauma-aware communication
β’ culturally respectful facilitation
β’ grief literacy education
β’ narrative-based teaching tools
β’ ethical boundaries and referral awareness
β’ creating emotionally steady learning environments
How long is the series?
Twelve weeks total, six weeks per track.
How does payment work?
Each six-week track follows a two-payment structure. Bundled foundational tracks follow a three-payment structure.
SECTION 3
Cross-Pathway Tuition & Progression
Advanced themes such as trauma-aware communication, emotional steadiness, cultural humility, and reflective facilitation appear across both the Palliative Pathway and the Grief Integration Series.
Students who complete one advanced pathway may become eligible for cross-pathway tuition considerations when progressing into the other advanced level.
Sequencing always applies:
Tier 1 β Tier 2
Track 1 β Track 2
Cross-pathway eligibility details are shared within each cohort.
Cross-credit benefits adjust tuition rather than learning hours. All curriculum hours and live participation requirements remain in place.
SECTION 4
NOC Alignment & CEUs
Are CEUs available?
CEU submissions are in preparation. Updates will be shared as approvals are secured.
How does NOC alignment work?
NOC serves as a classification system for occupational categories. CSPE curriculum aligns with competencies found in community-based supportive roles. NOC functions separately from accreditation or licensure.
Will this be recognized by professional bodies?
Future submissions to relevant organizations are planned. Recognition processes depend on external review and approval.
